Introduction to Project Brief

The New Elizabethans

Who am I? I am an 18 year old girl from Guildford who comes from an art background. I studied A Level Photography and BTEC Art at sixth form which I really enjoyed, but I wanted a change. I've always been creative rather than academic and I soon found an interest in makeup. I researched potential courses and applied to many places that offer the course. Southampton Solent was my first choice so I nearly cried when I was offered a place!

Although I don't have a lot of experience in makeup, I feel I have enough art experience to help me with my ideas and work that I produce. I like to think I'm painting a picture when I'm applying makeup - you can be as creative as you like and can completely change the way someone looks. I am fascinated by prosthetics and that is the route I would like to go down, creating looks for TV and film.

Our first project is based on the Elizabethan era. I don't know a lot about it but I am really looking forward to learning and researching in more depth to help me understand and produce work to the best of my ability. So far I have learnt a lot about the way they looked and what they wore and I am very excited to creating my own take of the era. However, I do fear a few things - one of them being that I might find it hard to translate my ideas across to other people. They might not understand my version and I want people to look at my work and instantly know that it's from the Elizabethan era.
