Locations to Find
West Quay Shopping Centre
The Mayflower Theatre
Southampton City Art Gallery
I worked with Hannah to find these locations and we found them quite easily. They were all really close to each other making it simpler for us and I really enjoyed exploring the city whilst doing it!
Makeup Brands and their 'Hero Products'
M.A.C Cosmetics
M.A.C Cosmetics caters to its target market by offering products and affordable prices for all ages, sexes and races. I really like the way the M.A.C cosmetics are displayed as there are so many exciting things going on which makes you want to look at everything! I also think its really easy to find products as everything is linked together.
The best sellers depend on what region or what time of year it is but the favourite seems to be the 'Ruby Woo' lipstick and 'Studio Fix Fluid' foundation. 'In Extreme Dimension 3D' mascara is also very popular at the moment.
Bobbi Brown
The thing I like about Bobbi Brown is there is no specific target audience, it is there for everybody to use regardless of how old you are. By looking at the picture you can see that they focus mainly on quite neutral colours but there are still so many to choose from!
Bobbi Brown's 10 best sellers are; 'Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner', 'Skin Foundation Stick', 'Lip Colour', 'Vitamin Enriched Face Base', 'Corrector and Concealer', 'Pot Rouge', 'Smokey Eye Mascara', 'Shimmer Brick', 'Bronzing Powder' and 'Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick'.
Smashbox
Smashbox studios started in 1990 and was founded by Davis Factor. I really like the way the counter is displays as I think its quite exciting and it makes you want to look at everything on offer. I think they're target audience is probably aimed at everyone as there is a variety of products and shades to choose from that suits everybody.

The top seller is the 'Photo Finish Primer'. It helps reduce the look of lines and pores and most importantly it keeps makeup looking fresh.
Laura Mercier
Although the counter is quite small in comparison to the others, it still had lots of products to choose from and I think its displayed nicely. By looking at the counter it was interesting to see that more older people were browsing the products and I think this tends to be the target market due to the range of neutral colours.
The top sellers are 'Secret Camouflage Concealer', 'Foundation Primer' and 'Tinted Moisturiser'.
Benefit
The Benefit counters have got to be my favourite because they are just so fun to look at. There is so much going on, its really girly and I think the design is quirky and cute. There is no specific target audience as their range of products suit all.
The best sellers are 'They're Real Mascara', 'They're Real Liner', 'Hoola Bronzer', 'Professional Primer' and 'Brow Zings'.
Bag Heads!
We were given brown paper bags, card and stationary and we had to create Bag Heads of where we would like to be in 5 years time based on our summer project. I tied elastic bands together to form hair and put a pretty pink bow in place. I have kept my Bag Head quite natural as I don't want to change in myself. I would love to work in the prosthetics industry but I don't want to become a different person, I want to stay real.
Illamasqua Lecture
The Illamasqua talk was so inspiring, I learnt so much and it made me excited for my future career as a Makeup Artist. There was also a tutorial and I learnt so many new techniques and all of products that exist. Charlotte, who ran the tutorial used the following products to create this look:
Hydra Veil Primer - prep the skin
Honour & Navy Pencils - for the eyes.
Embellish (Once Collection) - buffed over the top of the eyes.
Reflection Pallet - put in the corners of the eyes to create a spotlight effect.
Natural highlight down the centre of the face where the spotlight hits it (if doing runways).
Skin Base 18 - pushing it to the hairline and putting in contour.
Mixed and chose colours to create the highlights.
Apocalips Lipstick.
Synthetic Highlighting Brush.
Most of Illamasquas brushes are 100% synthetic and all makeup is cruelty free, meaning they haven't been tested on animals.
The workshop was amazing! We chose groups of 2 or 3 and we had to create a small pitch to go with a makeup look. We used our own brushes and were given limited products to use. We only had 15 minutes to create a look so we came up with...
Illamasqua Workshop
Hannah, or Zora, an underwater alien creature who was starring in a short film called The Abyss.
We chose golds, greens and blues and blended the colours together to create a mix of them all. I think we did quite well considering the short amount of time we had.
Charles Fox Lecture
Kyrolan was founded by Arnold Langer, a chemistry student influenced by the glitz and glamour of 1920's Berlin. He combined his passion for theatre and science to create new makeup. Kyrolan was launched and introduced to Berlin's theatres in 1945. 65 years on, the company are still creating innovative makeup just for professionals.

There are hundreds of different products to choose from and they provide everything needed for TV, film, fashion, airbrushing, body painting, special fx, photography etc.
My recording from the lecture (with permission)
I learnt so much in the lecture, there was so many different products that our guest speaker showed us. She explained every single item that she bought with her and it was so interesting hearing her reviews and how it can be used. After the lecture, I ended up spending over £100 on different products to expand my kit - and that was with discount!!
